If you live in a tenement flat, there are communal areas that need looking after such as entrance halls, staircases, landings, courtyards and gardens
Each building in this street will be factored by an external factor or self-factored by the block owners. You can find out who factors a building either by speaking to one of the owners or by searching the scottish property factor register here.
If you have a private garden however, it is your responsibility to keep the garden neat and tidy. We encourage all those who are lucky enough to have a garden to keep it looking beautiful!
If you and other owners are struggling to get funding from all owners in your building, the council can assist if a minority of owners within a building have not paid shares preventing work to proceed. If the cost per share is between £500 to£10,000 and the majority have paid their share, then council can step in to pay the missing share, and raise action against the missing shares owners. An excellent resource for Scottish tenement owners is the website https://underoneroof.scot/ it contains diagrams of how traditional tenements are built along with details on how to maintain them, what to look for and companies to contact.
If you see Graffiti in or around our area, you can report it directly to the council graffitti removal team by clicking here
Abandoned or untaxed vehicles can be an eyesore and may present a health and safety risk. If you see a suspected abandoned vehicle on our street, please report it by clicking here
Contact Glasgow City Council as they often run a low-cost collection service for unwanted household items such as fridges, wardrobes and mattresses.
Bulky rubbish must not be left in the communal areas, bin stores or gardens of our homes.
Another option is to take the items to your local rubbish tip such as Dawsholm Recyling Centre, 75 Dalsholm Rd, Glasgow G20 0TB.
Very often it's easier and faster to contact a bulk removal company, the prices are comparable and often cheaper than the council and they offer a far faster service.
Kersland Street is a Conservation Area, therefore trees in our street and back lanes require regular pruning and maintenance. Any removal or heavy pruning of trees requires permission from the council tree officer or fines can be issued. Click here for the council contacts
If there is a communal issue in your building please report it to your Factor. If it is related to a neighbouring block, please report it to the owners or their factor.
You are responsible for keeping your property clean to avoid pest problems. Some pest issues are building or street wide, so you should take action to report them to the Factor and other owners in the building.
Rats and Mice: Avoid using poison where possible. Mice should be caught as quickly as possible. Rats in buildings are very serious and this can invalidate your insurance. If you see rats or mice in your flat, report it immediately to your Factor or Landlord and let the other owners know so they can take action in their own flats.
Pigeons/Seagulls: Please do not encourage pigeons or seagulls in the street by feeding them. They cause damage to the roofs and buildings and often prevent roof repairs from being able to be done.
Wasp nests: These should be removed professionally
Cockroaches/ Bed Bugs: Report these to your landlord, if you live in rented accommodation
Foxes: Please do not encourage wild foxes into the area. They carry diseases that can be passed onto pet dogs, cats and humans.
A regular question in the neighbourhood WhatsApp is for trades and services other neighbours can recommend. Kersland Street Neighbours Association does not endorse tradesmen or companies, but we have compiled a page on the website of trades and services that have been used, to make it easy for neighbours to reference.
You can view it by clicking here.
